The Kelty Grand Mesa 2P is the right tent if packed weight and freestanding setup are your top constraints. At 4 lb 1 oz with an explicit freestanding design, it beats both alternatives on these two dimensions. The 3300mm waterproof rating is also the highest published number. If you camp solo, use narrow pads, or prioritize weight above all else, keep it.
The strongest switch case is to the Night Cat 2-Person. For $95.96 less, you gain 10.1 inches of floor width (fitting two 25-inch pads), a second door, and a second vestibule. The trade-offs are real: you lose freestanding capability, gain 6 ounces, and drop 300mm in waterproof rating. But for two-person trips where pad fit and door access matter more than 6 ounces, Night Cat is the better tent at less than half the price.
The Naturehike Cloud-Up 2 is the middle path. At $119 with a footprint included, aluminum pole, and 10 color options, it splits the difference. You gain a footprint and better pole material while keeping weight close to Kelty. The 51.2-inch floor is tighter than Night Cat but still wider than Kelty. Best if you want a complete package with some width improvement but don’t need the full 55.1 inches.

A freestanding tent (Kelty) stands on its own without stakes. You can pitch it on rock, wooden platforms, or sand, then move it before staking. Non-freestanding tents (Night Cat, Naturehike) require stakes for structure. In soft ground with good staking, the difference is minimal. On hard surfaces, freestanding is a genuine advantage.
